Windows 10 2004 has reached end of support on December 14, 2021

On December 14, 2021, Windows 10 2004 (May 2020 Update) officially ended support. All versions of the operating system are covered by this, including Windows 10 Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education, and even Windows Server 2004.

Although Microsoft no longer provides support for version 2004, you can still use it in theory. However, machines running this version will no longer receive security and quality upgrades, and you will no longer be able to contact the firm for support.

The system will shortly automatically update to the next supported version, in this case version 20H2 (October 2020 Update), if your device is still running the May 2020 Update. You can, however, always manually update to the most recent version, which is 21H2 as of this writing.

You should be able to upgrade manually by going to Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update, clicking the Check for updates button, and then selecting the option to download and install the most recent version that is compatible with your device.

You will need to restart the device in order to finish the installation of the feature update. Since version 20H2 and later releases are merely minor updates with a few minor additions and enhancements, and the installation doesn’t require a complete reinstallation, the process shouldn’t take too long.

You can use the Media Creation Tool or Update Assistant to manually update to the latest version.
