On December 8, 2020, Windows 10 version 1903 (May 2019 Update) officially ended support. This holds true for every version of the operating system, including Windows Server 1903 and Windows 10 Home, Pro, Enterprise, and Education.
While it is technically possible to continue using version 1903, devices running this version will no longer receive security and quality updates, and you will no longer be able to contact Microsoft for assistance, as the firm no longer provides support for this release.
The system will automatically update to the next supported version—in this example, version 1909 (November 2019 Update)—in the coming weeks and months if your device is still running the May 2019 Update. You can, however, always manually update to the November 2019 Update or a later version, such as 20H2 or 2004.
You should be able to upgrade manually by going to Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update, selecting the Check for updates button, and then selecting the option to download and install the most recent version that is compatible with your device.
You must restart your computer after the feature update has finished downloading and installing in order for the changes to take effect. Since version 1909 is a minor update with only a few minor features and enhancements, the installation process shouldn’t take too long, and it doesn’t require a complete reinstallation.
You can use the Media Creation Tool or Update Assistant to manually update to the latest version of the operating system.
