Windows 10 21H1 known issues blocking installation

Microsoft released Windows 10 21H1 (May 2021 Update) to millions of compatible devices worldwide on May 18. The software behemoth also released a list of known problems with the new version at the same time.

Only two issues on the list of known issues, which was posted on the Windows 10 health dashboard website, have been fixed as of this writing. To protect the experience, the business is blocking the update on impacted PCs by putting them on compatibility hold.

Known issues for Windows 10 21H1

The following is a list of known problems with Windows 10 21H1:

  • News and interests button on the Windows taskbar might have blurry text.
  • Apps might have issues accessing event logs on remote devices. (Resolved on June 6, 2021.)
  • A high-pitched noise might be heard when using 5.1 audio with certain settings. (Mitigated on May 18, 2021.)
  • Automatic input of Furigana might not work as expected. (Mitigated on May 18, 2021.)

Although it’s encouraging to see that a deployment is going well, this is to be expected given that it’s a minor update with few major changes and that Microsoft has been proactively resolving a lot of problems over the last few months.

Additionally, the software behemoth is only making the 21H1 update available for devices that are known to have a seamless upgrading experience, and it is doing so through a slow rollout strategy.

Even though there aren’t many issues with the new feature update, Microsoft will likely keep updating the dashboard page with more issues and fixes as needed as more devices install version 21H1.
