Although Microsoft plans to introduce Windows 11 (Sun Valley) sometime in the fall of 2021, it doesn’t seem like it will replace Windows 10 right away. Rather, a new feature upgrade for Windows 10 (version 21H2) is expected to be released together with Windows 11.
It appears that we will have two operating system versions, however the specifics of the plan are still unknown. The software giant will continue to support the older version in addition to the new operating system, according to a recent report from Windows Latest(andGitHub). The company recently published a documentation page (later edited) that includes the reference of Windows Sun Valley and Windows 10 separately.
The assertion that the Sun Valley update will be released concurrently with the upcoming feature update of Windows 10 is further supported by a recent update to the Windows 10 lifecycle documentation page that states the operating system will remain supported until October 14, 2025.
However, since no official information is available, it is also unclear who will receive which version, as the same rumor suggests that users may not be able to continue using Windows 10 after version 21H1. Microsoft can instead consider releasing Windows 11 for consumers and Windows 10 21H2 as a modest update for business clients, who often don’t care about new features.
One thing is almost certain, regardless of the strategy. The operating system Windows 11 won’t be a complete overhaul. Windows 10 will still be used, but the user interface will be updated to be more sophisticated and uniform throughout. Along with additional features to help users be more productive, the business has stated that developers would have new options for creating, sharing, and making money off of applications.
